Graduate of the Month, June of 2001

Located twenty minutes south of downtown Kansas City, KS, and at the crossroads of several major highways, Olathe City enjoys convenient access to surrounding suburbs and the advantages of a major city. It is flanked by the Santa Fe and Burlington Northern Railroads and has two service airports. Olathe city was founded in 1857 on the old Santa Fe Trail, its name probably comes from the Shawnee word for "beautiful." During the Civil War, Olathe was raided by the guerrilla leader William C. Quantrill in 1862. Quantrill led many attacks in Kansas, the most notable being Lawrence Kansas in 1863.

Olathe is the site of the Kansas State School for the Deaf that was established in1866. Perhaps this school has inspired our Graduate of the Month to pursue a career working with the deaf, a career that would not have been possible without a high school diploma.

Please join us in congratulating Ms. Jennifer L. Headrick for earning her high school diploma with an impressive 3.5 GPA. She completed all four years with us at Citizens' High School. We asked "Jenni Lynn" why she chose Citizens'. She told us that she had no confidence that the public schools could deliver a quality education. She also told us that she felt home schooling was best for her. She feels so strongly about home school and Citizens' curriculum that she has recommended it to others. In fact, Jennifer's little sister is now enrolled with us.

After completing the requirements for her diploma, Jennifer got married. Now she has a new family in addition to her old one. Jennifer's future plans include attending school to learn American Sign Language so she will be able to work with hospitalized hearing impaired patients.

Because Jennifer shows courage, strength, compassion, and commitment, we at Citizens' High School want to thank and proudly award her the distinguished honor of...... Graduate of the Month for June 2001.
