Graduate

Once known as the "City of 4 Cs," for churches,
chairs, children and cheese
It is believed that in 1635 Jean Nicolet, the French
explorer, was the first recorded white man to have
visited t Sheboygan as he skirted the shores of Lake
Michigan heading south from Green Bay.
Indians following their trail from Milwaukee to Green
Bay could always tell where they were when they reached
the mouth of the Sheboygan River. They called this
spot Schwab-we-way-kum, Indian terminology for "great
noise underground." The theory is that the rushing
sounds of the falls upstream prompted this description
and this is a more generally accepted version of how
Sheboygan got its name.

Let’s all make some great noise above ground
for one of Sheboygan’s newest high school graduates.
Please meet Mr. Martin Gesch. He graduated from Citizens’
back in February. He chose Citizens’ to complete
his diploma requirements for two reasons. First, he
felt the public school system did not do a great job
explaining the subjects he was taking. Second, Martin
did not want the easy way out and “just get
a GED”. He found our syllabus and fees more
than ace[ptable.
Now that he has his diploma martin is free to pursue
his next goal. He is a musician that plays in a local
band. His hopes and dreams are to some day be a recording
engineer. Martin knows that that takes a college education.
He also is ready.
With diploma in hand Martin’s job opportunities
have increased exponentially. “I feel a great
pressure has been lifted from my shoulders. It has
made a huge difference in my life.”
It is never easy to make an amends for a mistake.
We are very proud of Martin for taking that action
and returning to school. Because of his courage, we
award him Graduate of the Month for August 2006.
