Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) and Comments

Is this a G.E.D.?
No, this is not a General Education Development or equivalency certificate. Citizens' High School provides you the opportunity to earn an actual, accredited high school diploma.

How does this program work?
Citizens’ program is individualized instruction utilizing distance education for communication between you and the school. Each course includes a study guide that contains directions for reading, studying, writing, and the submission of exams to the school. At the school a qualified teacher personally grades your exams, adding helpful comments and suggestions, and then mails them back to you. As you finish each course, you receive a Certificate of Completion/grade report. Finally, after completing all required subjects, the proud moment arrives - you receive your high school diploma!

Do I have to pay for it up front?
We offer affordable, tuition payment plans to fit your family’s budget - with no interest or finance charges! The tuition covers all educational materials sent to you. Best of all, the books and materials you receive from us are yours to keep!

Are you accredited?
Citizens' High School provides a 9th - 12th grade high school diploma program accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council. The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.

Can I get credit for previous high school courses I've taken?
Yes! Citizens' High School will accept other verifiable high school credits you have earned in grades 9-12 (except Physical Education, Driver's Training, Religion, Chorus, Band, or ROTC) toward the number of credits required for graduation from CHS.

What kind of courses do you offer?
Citizens' offers a high school curriculum designed to give you a solid foundation in the basic academic areas of English, social studies, science, and math. You may choose either a general or an academic study program. We also offer an array of business subjects designed to enhance your marketable skills.

Will postsecondary schools and colleges accept your diploma?
Over the years many of our graduates have successfully continued their education in a variety of schools, colleges, and training programs throughout the United States. Since entrance requirements vary from school to school, check with the postsecondary school(s) of your choice for their particular entrance requirements so Citizens' can plan your educational program accordingly.

Do I have to be a certain age to enroll?
Compulsory-age students may earn an accredited high school diploma through CHS if it is not possible to work for a high school diploma from a regular high school. Since attendance laws vary from state to state, students who are under 18 years of age electing to complete high school at home should check with their local school board concerning their state and local school attendance laws to make sure they are in compliance with their state and school district requirements prior to enrollment at Citizens’ High School. Please contact us if any assistance is needed in helping your local school board understand our program and accreditation.

For those individuals who did not previously graduate from high school, CHS provides an opportunity for adult students of all ages to earn an accredited high school diploma.

How long will it take me to finish?
Our program is designed for self-paced learning. We work with you according to your time schedule with no school-imposed time constraints for completing a course! Depending upon the total number of courses required for graduation, a reasonably motivated student could complete an academic year in as little as four months! You may complete each course as rapidly as you wish, or you could take up to the three years given to complete the entire program.

Is there someone to help me if I have questions on my coursework?
We at Citizens' provide dependable academic support for all our students enrolled in our high school diploma program. Many of our students have come from the same families, churches, and communities for over twenty-four years. We have helped thousands of people of all ages and from all walks of life obtain their high school diploma - and we can help you, too!

How quickly can I get started?
