Thinking About Home School for an Accredited High School Diploma?
Whether you are currently a homeschooling student, a parent looking for a homeschooling curriculum for high school, or a former student who has been out of school for a while and wants to earn your high school diploma, you've come to the right place.
Citizens' has a long tradition of providing the highest quality, affordable distance education high school program to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Many of our students have come from the same families, communities and churches for over thirty years. Enrolling the sons and daughters of parents who themselves have graduated from Citizens' High School years ago is an exciting result of having a program built on traditional values and strong ethics since its inception.
What does it mean to be an accredited high school mean and why is it important?
Citizens' High School has been accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council since January 28, 1984. The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
WARNING: Being licensed is not the same thing as being accredited. Any school claiming accreditation should be carefully researched. Before investing valuable resources and time, verify that the accrediting agency listed by the school is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If not, beware! Too many people have been fooled into thinking a life-skills one-page test or an inferior curriculum, a hallmark of a diploma mill, is all that is needed to get a high school diploma. Don't be a victim of a diploma mill! For more information, read the Consumer Alert on this website.
Learning Through Distance Education
Distance education is virtually a miracle of modern learning. It offers the student a quicker, more convenient method of study provided through accurate and proven techniques. Distance education brings the school to the student's home, offering a convenience never before possible. While enrolled in Citizens' High School, students may continue with conventional schooling, work, and other obligations while they further their education in preparation for the future. Since Citizens' observes a year-round calendar, students may begin and complete coursework and grade levels at their own pace in the comfort of their own home or wherever their travels may take them!
While in this day and age, a computer and access to the internet is good to have, it is not necessary to complete the Citizens' High School program. There are no actual classes to attend and no online lectures that require the student to watch at inconvenient times. At Citizens', we still believe in the beauty and power of the printed word. Our students use actual books to reference and work from. The textbooks used are from nationally recognized educational publishers and are designed specifically with distance education students in mind.
Comprehensive study guides are developed to accompany each text, which acts as a "teacher at home", and takes the student and homeschooling parent step-by-step through each chapter and unit of the textbook. Additionally, while not required, we always include supplementary resources with our courses that can be utilized through an internet connection at home, at a local library, or through a homeschooling group. The main purpose is that all students, no matter their background or economic status, have access to an educationally sound, up-to-date, comprehensive high school program.
The Successful Homeschool Student
Distance education requires a strong person who is in command. No teacher will be right over your shoulder, pushing you on. You have to take the initiative and do it by yourself.
